Cheap Ferry to Kythira Port

Kythira is a small island off mainland Greece, lying opposite of the most eastern tip of the Peloponnese. The scenery is dramatic and in places quite spectacular and the architecture on the island is a mix of traditional, Venetian as well as Aegean elements. The islands capital of Kithira is the main port on the island and is connected to mainland Greece via Githio and Piraeus. It is also connected to the islands of Antikythira and Crete.

The port itself is small with little in the way of facilities, just public telephones and a couple of information bureaus. However it is close to the town centre which has a number of shops and restaurants if you wish to kill some time or grab some refreshments. All ferries departing from Kythira cater to disabled travellers however it is best to warn the company when making your reservation of any special needs.

ANEN lines operate ferries on a single route starting at Kissamos and then going on to Antikythira, Kythira, Githio, and finally Piraeus. ANEN offer a number of sailings each week and during the summer months the number of sailings increases. Hellas Flying Dolphins offers a hydrofoil service around five times per week which departs from the Zea Marina in Piraeus.

Due to the island’s small size there is no public transport available here at all; so it is vital that you have your own way to get around. The road network connects Kithira with all the other villages on the island however on some of the rural stretches it is advised to drive carefully. Parking at the port is minimal however in Kithira there are plenty of spaces to park your car. Kythira Airport offers regular 45-minute flights to Athens and the airport is not far from the port.
