Cheap Ferries from Rostock to Spodsbjerg

The German town of Rostock boasts a beautiful harbour and a long maritime tradition. Now a modern, vibrant city brimming with theatres, art galleries and festivals, it is a popular cruise and ferry destination. The wide beaches of the neighbouring Warnemunde district offer relaxed sunbathing and walking opportunities.

The economy here is centred on fisheries, shipbuilding and the port. Rostock’s most densely populated areas are in the west and southeast parts of the city. The overseas port is located in the east of Rostock, and serves as the landing point for the many tourists who choose to arrive here by ferry.

Located almost centrally on Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s Baltic Sea coast, Rostock is crossed by the Warnow River. A prime trading centre for northern German craftsmen and merchants, the city has emerged as the largest and most prominent city in Mecklenburg and western Pomerania. Rostock port provides free parking in the harbour sea, and hosts 43 ship berths along over 9kms of quays.
Scandlines, the largest ferry operator in the southern Baltic, services the route between Rostock and Spodsbjerg.

Scandlines’ modern fleet of ferries offer a range of tax-free services and a variety of restaurants on board. The company runs 14 freight and passenger lines between Germany and Denmark, Sweden and Germany, Denmark and Sweden, within Denmark and to the Baltic countries.

The port at Spodsbjerg offers a large ferry terminal, fishing harbour and a new marina. Spodsbjerg boasts a long and beautiful coastline which provides excellent opportunities for diving, angling and windsurfing, or you can hire a boat to go fishing or sailing. A small supermarket and hotel can be found at the port area. Free hourly buses ply tourists from the ferry to the main town on Langeland – Rudkøping. Just outside of Spodsbjerg lie the characteristic ‘Hatbakkerne’ hills, formed during the last ice age, well-worth a visit.
